The Heart Mender: A Story of Second Chances by Andy Andrews

Andy never dreamed what was in store for him when he started asking questions about some items he dug up in his own back yard.

While doing some yard work in his back yard Andy discovered an old can that contained three photographs, some buttons, a ring and a couple of medals. As he began doing some research he discovered that there were U-Boats that were running along the Gulf Coast during the war. In fact he discovered that the ran not very far away from where he was living. He began asking questions of those older folks who happened to be living in the area back than. He was overwhelmed with the information on the internet. As Andy talks with a particular older couple he discovers that they are harboring a secret. The secret of how those items became buried in the first place.

What follows is the story of Helen and Josef. How they met and how they manged to survive and find forgiveness and be able to love again.

This is a beautifully written story. I thoroughly enjoyed it. It grabbed my attention and didn't let go until I turned the final page.
